Preparation and Characterization of Nanostructures in Glasses

April 3, 2021 Physical Science 0

Melt quenching was used to make sodium borate and sodium-lead-germano-tellurite (SLGT) oxyfluoride glasses embedded with Er3+ and/or Ag. The glasses were characterised using thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction, and optical spectroscopy measurements. Heat treatment of the glasses resulted in the formation of nanoparticles. Because of the increased field in the vicinity of silver particles, Er3+ luminescence increased by 4 times. Under 972 nm Ti-sapphire laser excitation, high room temperature upconversion emissions were observed from Er3+ doped SLGT sample at 415, 540, 554, and 667 nm. The formation of nanocrystals was aided by changes in optical spectral characteristics.
