Variation in Soil Temperature Amid COVID-19 Pandemic Lockdown in Mid Hills of Rajouri and Jammu Districts, J&K, India

June 8, 2021 Engineering 0

The goal of this first investigation was to determine the effects of lockdown on soil temperature at various depths and to compare the results to the years 2018 and 2019.

Results and Methodology: The descriptive statistics method was chosen to characterize the essential aspects of the data in the study. In Rajouri District, the variation in soil temperature from the mean value at 5 cm depth observed during lockdown was -8.58 percent and -4.77 percent, respectively, in 2018 and 2019. However, at 10 cm deep, the variation from the mean value was -10.72 percent and -9.28 percent, respectively. At 20 cm dep th, the variation from the mean value was -2.34 percent and -1.98 percent, respectively. The average change in soil temperature in Jammu District in the morning at 5 cm, 10 cm, and 20 cm depths was -3.46 percent, -3.84 percent, and -7.23 percent, respectively, as compared to the mean value for the year 2019 (22nd March to 10th June 2019), and the change in soil temperature in the evening at the same depths was -7.69 percent, -6.31 percent, and -4.14 percent. Because the Rajouri District receives more attention than Jammu, the tables and numbers depict the Rajouri condition. Conclusion: The study found that, in the research region, there was a considerable shift in soil temperature readings at various depths owing to lockdown in 2018 and 2019.
