Analysis of Accounting Multipliers for the Mexican Economy

For a country that has developed at around 2% per year for decades, has lost value chains and transformed into a service economy, has low wages and skilled labour in some economic activities, and has overexploited natural resources in the last 40 years, an examination of all productive activities is needed.

What are the economic practises with the highest direct accounting multiplier, the ones that have the greatest effect on households, and which income decile do they affect the most? What is the most intense economic operation carried out from the homes? To address these issues, we suggest a social accounting matrix for Mexico and derive the accounting multipliers from it (direct, crossed and cyclical). Households have the greatest effect on grocery and food wholesale operation, according to cyclical accounting multipliers. The manufacturing of petroleum and coal derivatives (1.3295) has the highest direct multiplier, followed by the mining of metallic minerals (1.1977), the manufacture of audio and video equipment (1.1846), and the manufacture of essential chemicals (1.1846).
