Cautery Shapes, Types and Methods: A Critical Appraisal of the Relevant Literature

The goal of this review was to objectively identify and synthesise the literature on cautery therapy modes, styles and methods. Four databases (PubMed, MEDLINE, Google Scholar, and OvidSP) were electronically searched using Boolean operators and keywords, and some related articles and articles were used.  Two independent reviewers obtained abstracts (N=10256) for comprehensive evaluation. Finally , this paper contained 90 of the most important papers. In the literature, cautery is defined as having multiple forms, styles, application marks, precautions and methods and efficacy supported by single case reports and case series with level 4 & 5 proof. In particular diseases, conventional cautery with a specific shape and form is used along with a precise technique, but the underlying mechanism of behaviour and effects is not well elucidated.
