Determination of Cost of Illness of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in Tertiary Care Setting

September 6, 2021 Pharmaceutical 0

Diabetes mellitus places a significant financial and social strain on health-care systems and societies. Diabetes has a number of economic consequences for society: direct costs to persons with diabetes, their families, and the health-care system; indirect costs to society and government, which are productivity costs; and intangible costs, which are negative effects on quality of life. The economic burden of diabetes is poorly understood in the developing world, where the biggest forecasted increases in prevalence are expected. When compared to diabetics without difficulties, the overall annual medical costs are much higher in problematic diabetics. The need of the hour is to raise awareness about primary and secondary prevention of diabetes and its consequences, as well as to increase the ability of medical and paramedical professionals involved in diabetes treatment.
