Efficiency Enhancement of Cuprous Thiocyanate and Tin Halide based Perovskite Solar Cell Design

The toxicity of lead has provoked the researchers to use Tin for the Perovskite’ absorber layer. There
is the ability of high light absorption in Tin Halide Perovskite absorber because of its smaller bandgap
of 1.3 eV, broader visible, and UV region absorption spectrum which results in the enhanced
Quantum Efficiency (QE). The structure is composed of glass/ transparent conductive oxide (TCO)/
titanium dioxide (buffer)/ tin halide Perovskite (Absorber)/ cuprous thiocyanate (HTM)/ Metal back
which has been simulated using SCAPS software. This structure on simulation resulted in Fill Factor
(FF) of 85.17% and Power Conversion Efficiency (PCE) of 28.32%. The optimization of this structure
has been done by the variation of Conduction Band Effective Density of States (CBEDS), total defect
density, Valance Band Effective Density of States (VBEDS), and thickness of the absorber layer.
According to the optimized results, the variation of VBEDS resulted in a significant increment in PCE
to 32.47% and FF to 85.86%.
