Most studies of Bontok songs in Bontoc, Mountain Province, Philippines, have centered on the need to preserve an aspect of the “Ifuntok” (people of Bontoc) society, but the main goal of this paper is to provide an understanding of the Tokwifi’s “Antoway,” Bacwaden’s “Ayyoweng,” and Khensay’s “Chag-ay,” which are commonly used as Bontok wake and funeral songs, taking into The framework of Prototype and Relevance Theory is then organized and applied to the selected songs from the three collections in this research. It tries to show how prototype and relevance theory can help with not just a thematic analysis of the songs chosen, but also extratextual readings. As a result, it contributes to a thoughtful modern knowledge of Bontok indigenous culture by deceptively removing the impression of the past, recontextualizing them in today’s literature and music curriculum, and associating them with present free issues and concerns in the Bontok community.
