Experimental and Theoretical Investigations of Some Tridentate Substituted Salicylaldimines

(E)-2-((2-hydroxybenzylidene)amino)phenol, (E)-2-((2-hydroxyphenyl)imino)methyl) are five substituted tridentate salicylaldimines. (E)-4-chlorophenol, -4-nitrophenol (E)-2-((2-hydroxyphenyl)imino)methyl)phenol, -2-((2-hydroxyphenyl)imino)methyl)phenol, -2-((2-hydroxyphenyl)imino)methyl)phenol, -2-((2-hydroxyphenyl)imino)methyl)phenol, -2-((2-hydroxypheny (E)-4-bromophenol, -4-methoxyphenol 2-((2-hydroxyphenyl)imino) methyl)-2-((2-hydroxyphenyl)imino) methyl)-2-((2-hydroxyphenyl)imin The elemental analysis, IR, UV, and NMR were used to classify -6-methoxyphenol (1H and 13C). Furthermore, to supplement the experimental results, theoretical calculations using density functional theory were performed on the optimised structures of the salicylaldimines. The compounds’ antibacterial potentials were assessed using the agar-well diffusion process, and their total antioxidant capacities were calculated using the phosphomolybdenum assay. The antibacterial and antioxidant activities of the methoxy-substituted compound were the largest, whereas the nitro-substituted compound had the lowest. This means that the compound’s antibacterial and antioxidant properties are enhanced by the electron donating community.
