Performance Comparison of DSM-PI and PI Controller Based Switched Reluctance Motor Drive at Different Load Conditions

September 3, 2020 Engineering 0

In PI controller, the gains are fixed at a constant value which is a drawback when the system is in
operation as the error generated is not a constant value. In order to overcome this limitation, a Dual
Sliding Mode with Proportional and Integral (DSM-PI) controller is used for better time response to
operate the Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) drive with a closed loop speed control. A front-end
circuit fed asymmetric half bridge converter is used to drive the SRM. In this chapter, a PI controlled
SRM drive is compared with a DSM-PI controlled SRM drive at three different loads i.e., no-load, half
load, full load and the results are presented. With the proposed topology the error in the DSMPI
controlled SRM drive is minimized and the settling time is decreased with reduced ripple and
disturbances.
