Recent Study on CFD Modeling of Turbulence in Channels of Plate Heat Exchangers

Turbulence simulation of fluid flow in channels of plate heat exchangers for heating domestic hot water in a Belgrade heating substation is the topic of this paper.

The standard K-model of turbulence is used in this paper to test turbulence phenomena in channels.

The modelling for different flow rates of fluids across channels, adopted in boundary conditions, is of particular importance in this paper.

The rate of flow in the input region of the channels was believed to be 0.01 m/sec and 0.1 m/sec, respectively, which presupposed minimum and maximum values based on measured fluid velocities in the heat substations.

The values of the exchanged kinetic energy and the character of the transition in the amplitude of the estimates of these velocities in the direction of all three axes are calculated using these assumed speeds.

We may calculate the unsteadiness of the velocity and return currents in these channels and in their contour surfaces, as well as the “dead spots” where the fluid does not pass, using these projections.

The estimated values of the streamline’s Reynolds number for the assumed fluid velocity in channels are presented in this paper.

These phenomena can cause a variety of issues with heat and dirt transmission in plate heat exchanger channels where there is no circulation.

As a result, the obtained results can be used to dimension and pick heat exchangers, as well as to determine their ideal operating conditions.
