Study on Improving the Reliability of a Domestic Refrigerator Compressor Subjected to Repetitive Loading

January 8, 2021 Engineering 0

The Parametric Accelerated Life Test (ALT) was used to determine the life of a commercial refrigerator’s newly built compressor subjected to repeated pressure loading. It consists of (1) a product BX lifetime parametric ALT plan that will be X percent of the cumulative loss, (2) ALT load analysis, (3) a tailored sequence of parametric ALTs with design adjustments, and (4) determining if the product design(s) achieves the target BX lifetime. A generalised life-stress failure model and a new sample size equation with a new load definition were derived based on the basic refrigeration cycle. Using the equation of the sample size with the acceleration factor also allowed The design of this test can allow an engineer to uncover the design parameters that affect reliability during the compressor system design process. As a result, businesses should help boost product life and prevent recalls due to product defects in the field. A newly-designed compressor was used as a test case in a commercial refrigerator. Finally, to define and correct the design issues of a mechanical device, engineers may use parametric ALT.
