Application of orthodontic force causes an inflammatory event resulting in bone resorption and subsequent orthodontic tooth movement (OTM) in the periodontium. The release of inflammatory mediators such as E2 prostaglandins and Interleukin-1β serve as potent bone resorption stimulators.
