Lower-limb varicose veins are dilated subcutaneous veins with a diameter of less than 3 mm when measured in the upright position. Only patients with symptoms like dermatitis, ulceration, and bleeding are seen in clinics and hospitals, thus the exact incidence of varicose veins in our nation is unknown. These issues are a leading cause of morbidity. Varicose veins affect between 5% and 30% of the adult population, with a female to male ratio of 3:1. Varicose veins can be disabling and have a negative impact on one’s quality of life.

The search for a more effective prevention method as well as the optimal solution for this widespread ailment continues. In the last decade, there has been a paradigm shift in the treatment of varicose veins.
